Qinwen Zheng adds another feather to her cap as she’s named 2023 Most Improved Player of the Year by WTA
Chinese player, Qinwen Zheng wins her second consecutive WTA award at the end of the 2023 season.

As the 2023 season comes to an end, Chinese tennis player, Qinwen Zheng bagged the title of ‘Most Improved Player’ by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). The World No.15 is no newcomer to the WTA awards having won the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ in 2022.
Qinwen Zheng won the second consecutive WTA award of her career. This year, she was voted as the ‘Most Improved Player’. The Chinese had an incredible season on tour this year winning her first WTA 250 singles title at the Palermo Ladies Open in June earlier this year and jumping through the World rankings.
After securing her maiden WTA singles title, the 21-year-old went on to show her prominence in the United States as she reached the quarter-finals of the US Open as well. Her season only went on to become better as she won a well-deserved WTA 500 event on her home soil, lifting the Zhengzhou Open title to claim her second trophy of the season. The Chinese won the last 12 out of the 15 matches that she played and ended the year achieving the career-high ranking of 15.
As the 2023 season comes to a close, the WTA will be handing out its prestigious awards to players and coaches for their excellent and stand-out performance this year. The winners will be celebrated over social media and other digital platforms in the coming weeks.
Other players who won awards apart from Qinwen Zheng
While Qinwen Zheng received the award for the ‘Most Improved Player’ for the year 2023, Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek and Mirra Andreeva also bagged the other player awards.
The World No.1 won the award for ‘Player of the Year’ for her excellent and dominating performance on tour this year. Mirra Andreeva was voted the ‘Newcomer of the Year‘, the award that the Chinese won last year.
Apart from players, even coaches and tournaments receive these awards from the WTA. While Tomasz Wiktorowski received the Coach of the Year award, the Best Tournament of the Year award is yet to be given and will be awarded in the coming few days.
