Chinese tennis player Qinwen Zheng has revealed that she was in tears after her former coach Wim Fissette broke his contract with her to join Naomi Osaka’s coaching team. Zheng expressed her displeasure with Fissette’s termination of their contract as she previously called him immoral.

Zheng revealed that she was aware of the fact that Fissette was in contact with Osaka’s team. “Right after the match, he said to me that he felt like he had no connection with me,” said the Chinese player. She also admitted that this was never the case before this. She also said that her manager assured her that the Belgian coach was not the kind of person to do such a thing. According to the World No.23 player, Fissette had cut ties with her right after a week’s rest after her quarter-final loss to Aryna Sabalenka at the US Open 2023.

She admitted that this sudden decision by her coach made a massive impact on her family and her team members. “There were no fights, no arguments in our collaboration. There was nothing new to me in this collaboration, but also he did not do anything wrong,” said Zheng. She explained that their agreement was cut short with a very quick decision on her coach’s behalf and did not involve any quarrels between them.

This announcement came as a shock, immediately after Zheng had won a gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. This is not the first time the Chinese player has spoken out against the ‘immoral’ actions of her former coach. Wim Fissette will be continuing his partnership with Naomi Osaka. Fissette was Osaka’s coach before she took a hiatus from tennis on account of her pregnancy.

Zheng also admitted that she understood that being Osaka’s coach was a much better decision for Fissette. She acknowledged that he has a family to support and this decision would be the best for him.

Nevertheless, she made it clear that she was unhappy with his decision. “I understand his decision, but it doesn’t mean that I will forgive him for making such a decision,” she said.
