Casper Ruud, the 23-year-old Norwegian professional is quickly cementing his position as one of the best players in the world of the current generation. Ruud is often called a clay court specialist by fans across the globe but the Norwegian is proving his haters wrong as he is putting in excellent performances at the ongoing US Open.
Casper Ruud last won the Swiss Open where he beat Matteo Berrettini in the finals, he managed to reach the semi-finals of the Canadian Open was eliminated by Polish professional Hubert Hurkacz and he was unable to put in a good performance at the Cincinnati Masters event as he was eliminated in the first round of the event.
Casper Ruud feels confident of his chances at the US Open
Casper Ruud has been putting in excellent performances at the ongoing US Open, the Norwegian has managed to book his place in the semi-final stages of the tournament, he recently beat Italian professional Matteo Berrettini in the quarter-finals in straight sets to make his way into the last four.
After the match, Ruud talked about the variety of winners the US Open has had, he said, “I think if you look at this tournament, US Open, and a couple of players who have been known as clay court players, let’s say Rafa and Thiem, they have both won here, and [Nadal] has won it four times, when you look at the Champions Wall in the locker room here, you see there are many different players who have won this tournament.“
“This is a Grand Slam the last 18 or 19 years that had more winners than the rest of them, because I’m not sure why, but there is something special I guess with this place, This year I’m pretty sure there will be new first-time winner here this year also. It shows that it’s possible to do it here in New York. It’s sort of a city of dreams, I guess, and I guess that’s helping me with my game and my motivation,” Ruud added further.
The Norwegian is often called just a clay-court player and he opined that despite being a clay court specialist, the US Open has seen lot of winners with the same titles over the past few years and the same could be the case for Casper Ruud as he is so close to going all the way and win the title.
