Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas have won five of the previous six Monte-Carlo Masters championships between them, becoming the only players to do so since 2003. Regardless, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina believes their play styles are pole opposite.

While the Spaniard thinks Nadal is a “beast” who physically subdues his opponents, the Greek’s one-handed backhand, according to the 22-year-old is equally as difficult to play against.

Fokina was all love for his victor in his press conference after losing the 2022 final against Tsitsipas in straight sets. Despite not having the advantage of being a lefty, the World no. 27 said he was equally as difficult to beat as the 21-time Grand Slam champion.

The 22-year-old Spaniard said, “It’s very different. It’s different because in the end, Rafael Nadal is left-handed and, you know when we play against him, we always play backhands. That’s why it’s difficult to play against Rafa. Stefanos has a one-handed backhand. But it’s not easier to play against Tsitsipas than Rafa either. It’s a different ball. Physically, Rafa is a beast.”

Despite his tight schedule, World No. 27 announced that he will compete in Spain, saying that he did not want to miss out on the few home events he gets to play in front of his friends and family. Although he has been forced to skip the Barcelona Open due to fatigue, he will be ready to play in the Madrid Masters that begin in the first week of May. It looks like we will be seeing the three of these amazing players rise higher and higher and gear up for their coming matches.
