Tennis legend, Rafael Nadal, will be back in action on the ATP Tour level for the very first time since his exit at the US Open. The Grand Slam champion took a hiatus after the US Open fourth-round loss to recover from his injury. However, he is now back in an action for the Paris Masters 2022 and has been training quite consistently for the penultimate tournament of the year.

Although the Spanish tennis player is known for his impeccable performances in the past, he admitted being a little unsure of his physical state given his ‘older body’ as he makes his return to the competition after being on the sidelines for two months. More interestingly, this will be his first tournament after Nadal became a father.

The World No 2 has had a successful year after skipping the second half of 2021 due to his foot injury. He went on to win two Grand Slams and looked in great form till his abdominal injury at Wimbledon. He even skipped a few important tournaments on the North American swing to recover from his injury.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner reflected on his current form prior to his match at the Paris Masters. He was uncertain about his chances in the competition, as he was currently unsure about his gameplay form. As per the Grand Slam champion himself, he has been practicing for quite some time and is prepared, but everything’s different on the court given the top-notch competition.

He said “I don’t know. Let’s see on the competitive level how I manage. It’s always an issue with older bodies like mine, it’s easier to know how the things are going when you are playing tournaments in a row. When you are coming back from a period out of the competition, it’s difficult to know how you’re going to be playing, how your body is gonna respond, because it’s obvious that the tour level is different that the practice.

The 2022 Australian Open champion expressed his contentment with his results throughout the year. But also didn’t keep aside the fact that he has been very unfortunate due to his injuries. After getting injured in Wimbledon, he had to withdraw from the semifinals and hence couldn’t hold a chance to achieve a calendar Grand Slam.

Rafael Nadal added that “It’s true that 2022 has been an amazing year in terms of results, but at the same time, it is true that have been a tough year in terms of injuries. I am here to try my best. Then accept the things how things are coming. Hopefully, I’ll be ready.
