Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal has revealed that he might skip the 2024 Doha Open after feeling some discomfort in the past few weeks.
However, the 22-time Grand Slam winner has confirmed that he will be playing in Indian Wells if there’s no issue before that, and that is, without a doubt, positive news for Nadal fans across the globe.
Rafael Nadal suffered a hip injury during the 2023 Australian Open and had to undergo surgery. He took an entire year to recover and finally made his comeback in the 2024 Brisbane International, with the foresight of playing in the Australian Open.
Unfortunately, it was short-lived, as he suffered a muscle issue during his quarterfinal match against Jordan Thompson, which he ended up losing. The injury further extended his stay away from the court, and he had to opt out of the Australian Open.
The Spaniard was supposed to play in the Doha Open but he recently said that it might not be possible.
I've had some discomfort these last few weeks and I'm a little pushed to my limit. At this point, every issue, every injury, is a setback not only in the tennis and in the physical, but also in the mental. I would love to be in Doha, but Doha is very soon after the injury. I see the Doha decision more at the last minute.Nadal said. (Source: Revelo)
Rafael Nadal says he’ll take part in the Indian Wells for sure
The Spaniard is 100% confident that he will take part in the Indian Wells. He said that it is a special tournament for him and it might be the last time he takes part in it after all. He has won the title three times.
I am 100% confident in being in Indian Wells, it is a very special tournament for me. I don't know if it's going to be the last time I'm going to play it, but there are options that yes, so I would like to be in Indian Wells.Nadal said
However, Rafael Nadal’s priority right now is to be as fit as possible for the 2024 clay season.
If there's no issues before then, I'm going to travel there. My priority goal, which is what I said from the beginning, is to reach the clay season at least as healthy as possible. I want to try to give me the option of enjoying that clay season.Continuing further, he added
The Spaniard is hands down the greatest clay court player of all time. He has won the French Open a record 14 times.
