Tennis Plays for Peace

Many tennis stars like Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, and many more are set to come together once again in the Australian Open 2023 to help the people of Ukraine. Tennis Australia and the Australian Open continue the “Tennis Plays for Peace” initiation and raise funds to help the needy in Ukraine. After a successful fundraiser in last year’s US Open, it is now the turn for the Australian Open.

Tennis For Peace is a global initiative including all official bodies of tennis that came up to fund the people of Ukraine who suffered in war. Charity matches are going to be played on 11th January 2023 for which the tickets are up for sale. Some of the prominent players to be a part of this event include Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Francis Tiafoe, Alex de Minaur, Coco Gauff, and many more. Tennis has always been part of such charity events many times in the past.

The U.S. Open 2022 first held a “Tennis plays for peace” event. Players like Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and many more have participated and raised a sum of $1.2 million for the cause. The inaugural event was a huge success and this time Tennis Australia would like to include many more players. They intend to collect a much bigger amount for the donation.

The fares are $25 for adults and $5 for kids. In addition, 98-year-old, Leonid Stanislavskyi from Ukraine comes to the event as an honored guest and will face 98-year-old Henry Young from Adelaide. Last year accounted for a total of 21 current and former players who played a total of five double tie-break sets.

Here’s what the Australian Open Director, Craig Tiley said “Tennis is a truly global sport with an international playing community that has a history of stepping up and helping out. Through Tennis Plays for Peace, the tennis community can offer practical assistance through fundraising, as well as show our heartfelt support for the victims of the war,”

He also added, “We look forward to a spectacular night of tennis and entertainment and a wonderful opportunity to come together and raise much-needed funds.” This initiation of UNICEF along with all the official tennis bodies will help Ukraine recover soon. However, fans have mixed reactions on social media. Nonetheless, they are expecting these exhibition matches to be a lot of entertaining too. Having a chance to see all their favorite stars together is always wonderful.
