Rafael Nadal’s pre-tournament press conference at the 2023 French Open was the most anticipated of his entire career. There was a reason for the entire anticipation and hype around it. The possibility of the Spaniard missing the French Open for the first time since 2005 had everyone praying.
However, to everyone’s disappointment, Nadal announced that he had withdrawn from the 2023 season. He also said that he wouldn’t compete in any other tournament this year. He also hinted that 2024 might be his last, but he will try his best to extend his career.
“You have to accept the way things are. You can be angry, you can be sad. It is what it is, but from now on you have to look towards the future. I’ve got other good things going for me in my day-to-day life. I don’t want to be a drama queen, quite the opposite, I want to be thankful for all the good things that have happened to me. I can’t keep demanding more and more from my body because there will be a time when my body says ‘That’s enough.’”
This withdrawal also means that Nadal will drop out of the top 100 for the first time in 20 years. He now won’t care much about his rankings, as it is a steep climb. He will like to enjoy every moment he can on the court without thinking much about all the other stuff.

But because I want to come back, after what has happened, I would like to return knowing that I have options to start from scratch. It will be a hard process and will require a lot of effort.”
The 14-time French Open champion very well knows that the comeback won’t be easy. He knows that he will have to give it everything. He has to start from scratch. The tennis world very well knows that Nadal will do whatever it takes to put a smile on his fans’ faces. Till then, there will be prayers all around for his recovery.
