Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal was present in Madrid for the launch of Kia Motors’ EV9. At the event, however, when the 22-time Grand Slam title winner was asked about his plans to return to the court, Nadal revealed that he was still in his recovery phase.
Kia Motors, a South Korea-based car company, unveiled its first three-row battery-powered sport utility vehicle at the IFEMA Convention Center in Madrid on Wednesday. Rafael Nadal marked his presence at the event and was later presented with a newly launched Kia EV9. At the event, however, the 37-year-old discarded Craig Tiley‘s claims confirming his participation at the Australian Open in 2024.
Although Federer claimed that he would like to be back on the court beginning next year in Australia in the month of January, he also stated that he couldn’t confirm his presence. “I really can’t confirm something I don’t know,” the Spaniard said. “Nothing has changed in the last few weeks except for the fact that I’m training a bit more than before, which is an accomplishment for me and my mental health,” Nadal stated while speaking at the Kia Motors event in Madrid.
“I’m not training without pain. I’m in less pain than I used to be, but I’m still in pain,” the former World No. 1 claimed. “However, this pain allows me to do more and more things eventually. Things would be different if I had zero pain,” he added. The player further stated that he could give an exact date for his return if he were in no pain. “Because I would have time to prepare myself for that,” he further stated.
Rafael Nadal launches Kia Motors’ EV9 in a special event
Rafael Nadal has been the brand ambassador of Kia Motors since 2004. Following the event, the Spanish tennis player expressed his love for the new car, claiming that it would be his new way to love the road. The Spanish legend also talked about Kia’s movement on the tennis court.
“Yesterday in Madrid, I lived one of those special days. Our next move together is larger than life! The amazing KIA EV9 is my new way to love on the road, and I can’t wait to see how we’re reshaping movement on the tennis court too. Thanks,” wrote Nadal while sharing his pictures with the new Kia EV9. Nadal’s contract with the Korean company expires in 2025.
