‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal has finally returned to his favorite territory after a long wait. Taken down by an injury after making his season debut in Brisbane, the Spaniard attempted various comebacks since then. Recently, Nadal shared a snippet of his training in Monte Carlo, giving a strong signal of his comeback.

Prior to this, the Spaniard skipped the 2024 Australian Open as he feared risking his chances to play later in the season. The decision proved to be the correct one, as his attempted comeback at the Indian Wells Masters also failed.

Following his withdrawal in Melbourne, discussions on his next appearance being on clay started growing. As the surface suits him the best, it was fairly obvious he wouldn’t risk anything before it. In what many are expecting to be the ‘last dance’ for Nadal, he is sure sweating it out on clay. He recently posted a video on his Instagram practicing in Monte Carlo. Dressed in all white from his cap to shoes, the King of Clay was seen sliding with ease, hitting his trademark forehand and the backhand as well.

He also cheekily confirmed playing in the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters via the video’s caption. The Spaniard though, mainly took the attention of the viewers to the music that he added to the video. It was the MXPX song Monte Carlo, suggesting Nadal will return to the competition next month.

Uncle Toni has confidence Rafael Nadal can win the 2024 French Open

With only three matches under his belt going into the clay season, it’s quite difficult to make any prediction on how Nadal will fare. Although his track record makes him a favorite for every clay court match, his form and fitness is a major concern.

Following the Brisbane International this year, Rafa declined to play in any hard court event. It was a clear sign of him wanting to stay fit for the clay season. This motive received backing from his uncle and ex-coach Toni Nadal.

Toni is currently coaching Felix Auger-Aliassime while also managing the activities of the Rafa Nadal Academy. The coach however believes that the former World No. 1 can go the distance in Paris and win his record-extending 15th French Open title.

I prefer to say that he is going to win [at Roland Garros]--I know it’s difficult, but I always try to be positive and I hope that my nephew can play a great role both in the [Olympic] Games and at Roland Garros.
