The wait for the King of Clay continues as reports suggest that Spanish Great Rafael Nadal will be 90% out of the Barcelona Open. Since losing in the Australian Open second round, the Spaniard is yet to play a tournament. Amidst the injury woes, Nadal dropped out of the Top 10 rankings after 18 long years. The Spaniard was expected to be back for the clay court swing with a bang but his health reports are not the ones the tennis world wanted to hear.

There was already speculation that the Spanish World No.15 will not be unable to compete at the best level even if he made a return to Barcelona after missing the circuit for more than three months. Rafa’s fans were, at least, expecting his presence there with some chances and match practice to peak for the ultimate prize at Roland Garros.

The 12-time Barcelona Open has even named a court after him – Pista Rafael Nadal. The ultimate warrior on the court has written immortal stories on the red clay over the years. His absence will be heartbreaking for the Spanish crowd this year as the 36-year-old seems like the setting sun.

It was only days back that the French Open organizers presented Rafael Nadal with a miniature of his statue at Roland Garros. Following this, Spanish legend Rafael Nadal gave a heartfelt message thanking the French Open. The organizers of the tournament including Amelie Mauresmo visited the Rafael Nadal Academy in Manacor to gift him a replica at a small ceremony.

Rafael Nadal has had an injury-hit career. However, he has always come back stronger to win more Majors and break more records. Despite being one of the unluckiest players in the history of the game in terms of injuries, Nadal is still the most successful Grand Slam player ever. With 22 Grand Slam titles won, he is still at the top with Novak Djokovic.

In 2022, the Spaniard underwent a radio-frequency treatment. It was expected to stop the pain in the foot by numbing the nerves. The fans were expecting an-injury free Nadal after the foot treatment. But the abdomen injury in the second half of 2022 and the hip injury at the start of 2023 have given them further blows.
