Rafael Nadal is returning to tennis action after recovery from the rib injury which sidelined Rafa from both the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters and the 2022 Barcelona Open. Nadal hopes for a good run in Madrid, in front of the home crowd in his preparations ahead of the 2022 French Open.

It is no secret that Rafa is a fan of the Spanish giants Real Madrid Football Club and is often spotted in the stands supporting the club. With the football club one win away from winning the league title for this year, Rafa attended the match in the Santiago Bernabeu, the home stadium of Real Madrid. Nadal had been given the special honour by the club to kick-off the ball to start the match, something not many athletes get.

Carlos Alcaraz was also present for the occasion. He has been on a roll as he arrived in Madrid after successfully conquering the Barcelona Open title. He lost to Rafa in the semifinals of Indian Wells and then he went on to win the Miami Masters. He also entered the ATP top 10 emulating his idol Nadal in exactly the same manner after the title victory in Barcelona.

It looks like Alcaraz has picked up another habit of his childhood idol as he was spotted in the stadium. Upon Alcaraz’s historic victory in the Miami Masters, the football club had wished him on Twitter. It was a successful outing for both tennis players as they were able to see Real Madrid defeat Catalan club Espanyol with a 4-0 thumping to win their record-extending 35th league title.
