Rafael Nadal was spotted cheering on his favorite soccer team, Real Madrid, at the Santiago Bernabeu. They were playing against Real Sociedad in a La Liga match. Real Madrid recorded their fifth win in as many league matches this season. They now sit at the top of the table, beating their arch-rivals Barcelona.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion is a massive supporter of the club. He was there as a spectator for his favorite team. The 37-year-old tennis legend was also seen meeting the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez.

The Spaniard’s longstanding loyalty to the club has raised rumors regarding his replacing the current president and holding the position when Perez retires. Nadal had spoken about the reports surrounding his being the successor to the president. He had admitted that he would like to take up the position, but it is too soon to talk about it now.

The former World No. 1 said, “If you ask me if I would like it, of course I would, why not? But there is more to it.” He said that the team is as good as it is right now and they don’t need him. However, the tennis star has still kept hopes alive by saying, “But we never know what can happen in the future. It is not something I can raise today,” while speaking to El Mundo.

Rafael Nadal’s comeback pushed back

Rafael Nadal had taken an extended break from tennis to recuperate from his injuries. He made the decision to go under the knife to heal from his hip injury that had caused him pain for a number of years.

He took his break at the beginning of the season during the Australian Open. The 37-year-old suffered defeat at the hands of Mackenzie McDonald. He then missed several significant tournaments till he announced his break ahead of the French Open.

While he had not specified a confirmed date for his return he had hinted that he would like to be back by the Davis Cup at the end of the year.

However, Spain, the host country that Nadal represents has been knocked out of the tournament, thereby pushing him to shelve his participation.
