The Spanish great Rafael Nadal has not played a single match this season since the second-round loss against Mackenzie McDonald in the Australian Open second round due to a hip injury. He trained to be back ready for the clay season, but the hip injury concerns stopped him from stepping onto the courts for the entire year. He later announced that he will be back in 2024, probably to play his final season on the tour.

The 37-year-old is the most successful player of the US Open in the last decade, being able to clinch 4 titles. He was able to play in 5 finals between 2010 and 2019 there. The only loss was in the 2011 final against none other than Novak Djokovic. The Serbian star will be trying to utilize the best of the chances this year and make the Grand Slam lead to two.

The only player who can stop Djokovic in Nadal’s absence will be Carlos Alcaraz, the current world number one and Nadal’s compatriot. He has done the job quite well in the Wimbledon finals after losing in the semi-finals of the French Open.
