Spanish legend Rafael Nadal was among the first to congratulate the new Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz. Sharing the happiness of seeing his compatriot winning the second major title of his career, the Spaniard took to Twitter and Instagram to post congratulatory messages.
Rafael Nadal tweeted, “Congratulations Carlos Alcaraz. You have given us immense joy today and I am sure that our pioneer in Spanish tennis, Manolo Santana, has also been cheering wherever he is, such as Wimbledon whom you have joined today. A very strong hug and enjoy the moment, Champion!!!“
Alcaraz has said multiple times that Nadal is his role model. The 20-year-old has now joined Nadal’s club of Spanish Wimbledon champions. It is unreally similar that there was always a guy, from Spain, who stepped up to stop the reigning Wimbledon champions and the almost invincible players of their times, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, in a five-set thriller, on center court, fifteen years apart.
Carlos Alcaraz has now 2 Grand Slam titles before turning 21, similar to Nadal
The Spanish 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz has now become the holder of 2 Grand Slam titles similar to his idol Rafael Nadal. Nadal was able to win two French Open titles before turning 21 and Alcaraz has now won the US Open and Wimbledon once each. The Spanish World No.1 was also the title favorite in the French Open this year but unfortunate cramps due to mental pressure let him down in the semi-finals against Novak Djokovic.
This victory will be sweet revenge for the young Spaniard and will give him a lot of confidence in upcoming battles against the Serbian superstar. Alcaraz now leads their head-to-head 2-1 as well. Their first battle was in Madrid Masters, 2022 where Alcaraz prevailed in the third set tie-breaker.
It will be interesting to see how Djokovic will raise against the young set of players, who seem to be hungry enough to beat the Serbian star, in the coming tournaments.
