Spanish tennis maestro and 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, who is eyeing a comeback on the tour through next year’s Australian Open, has been lauded by his doctor for his mental prowess. Dr. Angel Ruiz Cotorro, who has worked with Nadal for a fair amount of time, now believes in the Spaniard that he will once again return to the tour just like he has done in the past.
It is worth mentioning that Rafael Nadal was down and out with an injury before the start of the 2022 season as well. However, he made a roaring comeback by winning the year’s first Grand Slam and also went on to win his home Slam. Now, a similar comeback is expected from the Spaniard as his doctor has full faith in Nadal.
“Nadal has a very high mental health base. He is a very strong person, he has shown it in all his years of competition. When you have an injury of this type, you come fighting and then you see that you can’t and you have to have surgery… it is a difficult situation. You have to help him, from all points of view,” said Ruiz Cotorron to IB3 TV (via Diario de Mallorca).
“He has already shown us other times that he has returned, he will return once again. He, since he knows this process and wants to play again, is doing everything possible to make it happen.”
Rafael Nadal well on course to make comeback
Rafael Nadal’s doctor’s claims seem perfectly fine as the Spaniard looks well on course to make a comeback. The 37-year-old who has a horrible 2023 season, managing only four matches before going away from the tour and undergoing surgery recently shared a video of him practicing.

In a 20-second clip doing the rounds on social media, Nadal is seen having a go at his opponent with some strong forehand and backhand shots. The 37-year-old also looks fine while moving across the court to return the shots.
This clip has fuelled hope among Nadal fans who are expecting the Spaniard to have one last dance before he decides to finally give up. And if Rafael Nadal makes a comeback next season, it will be a thrilling contest between the Spaniard and his nemesis Novak Djokovic who recently won his 24th Grand Slam title.
