Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal have been two of the fiercest players in the history of the sport and have shared some good memories both on and off the field. Apart from the rivalry, the two have immense respect for each other and have been good friends for a while now.

Both players were involved in a fun challenge off-field during the 2024 Brisbane International. Basically, it was a time-constrained challenge to see who could grip the racquet faster.

Rafa completed gripping his racket in 25 seconds and looked left and right, feeling proud. However, his happiness was short-lived.

The host of the program informed Rafa that Murray completed the task in just 11 seconds.

But was everything perfect like me? Or were there holes in the middle?
To which Rafa was very surprised and jokingly said

Both the veteran players started their season with the first 250 event of the season, the Brisbane International.

However, things didn’t turn out as expected for both of them. Murray was eliminated from the Round of 32 of the tournament by Grigor Dimitrov. On the other hand, the Spaniard was eliminated from the quarterfinals of the tournament by Jordan Thompson.

Is Murray and Nadal contenders for the 2024 Australian Open?

Though Brisbane International didn’t turn out as expected for both of them, it provided a good training ground for the mega event in Melbourne Park

Both Murray and Nadal have suffered from injuries in the past few years. With both players at the twilight of their careers, there have also been rumors of retirement for both players. While Rafa has made it pretty clear that this is his last professional tennis season, Murray has denied all rumors about his retirement.

Whatever the form may be, the players of their stature will always be contenders for the title. Rafa has won the Australian Open twice, while the Brit has reached the final of the tournament five times in his career.
