The history has repeated itself. Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury have become the men’s doubles champions of the 2023 US Open by defeating Australia’s Matthew Ebden and India’s Rohan Bopanna in the final of the tournament at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The three-set thriller was a treat to the eyes of tennis fans across the globe, who saw the dynamic duo of Ram (from the USA) and Salisbury (from Great Britain) hold their nerves to make a sensational comeback victory.
Ebden and Bopanna completely dominated the first set and gave their opponents no chance at all as they won it 6-2. Their win by a clear margin in the first set made it seem like the final would go in their favor. However, Ram and Joe Salisbury made a brilliant comeback there. The hard-fought second set between them was ultimately won by the eventual champions by 6-3, and thus the match went on to the deciding third set.
Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury started off brilliantly in that set as well, but Rohan Bopanna and his partner picked up their performance after a while. Sadly, it was too late by then, and their opponents were able to close the match by winning the third set 6-4 after tremendous competition between the two teams.
Rajeev Ram currently has a doubles ranking of World No. 5, and he has a career-best ranking of World No. 1, which he achieved last year. Joe Salisbury, on the other hand, has a doubles ranking of World No. 6 currently, and his career-best ranking is also World No. 1. Their present rankings will obviously change after the US Open.
Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury set a brilliant record after winning the final
Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury have become the first pair ever to three-peat the US Open men’s doubles title, i.e., to win it three times in a row. Their pair has achieved innumerable achievements now, and this one is by far one of the biggest, which puts them in the history books.
The duo are currently unbeaten for 18 matches straight in New York and have won four major titles together, which include three US Open titles and one Australian Open trophy, which they won back in 2020. This goes on to show the phenomenal chemistry between the two players.
