Serbian former World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic recently opened up about the retirement of two legends, Roger Federer and Serena Williams. Ivanovic discussed her mixed feelings about the duo’s retirement from the sport. The 35-year-old was disappointed with the news, but at the same time, she sees this as an opportunity for the new generation of players.
The Swiss maestro played his last match in the Laver Cup for Team Europe last September. His farewell was a very emotional moment that had not been seen in recent years. Serena, on the other hand, “evolved away” from tennis after her early exit from the 2022 US Open.
“It was definitely a very tough time for tennis. Because Serena and Roger left such marks on the sport and they were an inspiration to many, including myself,” the 2008 French Open champion said. Ivanovic also believes that the transition was a necessity. “But we really needed to make that transition, see new faces, and create new rivalries, you know, especially in men’s tennis with Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, and Murray. These rivalries are not going to be easy to recreate,” she explained.
“But I hope that the new generations can really impose themselves. Hopefully next year we can see more new rivalries I think and everyone will enjoy it,” Ivonovic further added.

Ana Ivanovic shares the news of her pregnancy

Ivanovic, the former World No. 1, has shared some good news with her fans. She and her husband, Bastian Schweinsteiger, are expecting their third child. Ivanovic got married to the former footballer in 2016, and they have a five-year-old son, Luka, and a three-year-old son, Leon.
Ivanovic shared the news via her Twitter. “Now @BSchweinsteiger and I are officially getting outnumbered,” she wrote. Ivanovic retired from the game in 2016 at the early age of 29 citing a drop in performance. Last December, Ivanovic explained the reason behind the decision.
“I think it’s always a very hard moment in your career when you make that decision but to be honest, last year or over a year, I was really struggling with a lot of injuries and I felt like I could never get myself back in a shape to be in the top and I really felt it was time for me to step back and to look for other opportunities and other wishes that I had for starting a different career,” Ivanovic said.
