Daria Kasatkina, the 25-year-old Russian recently came under a lot of spotlight after she came out as a lesbian in a youtube video and talked about the hardships of being one, with the strict rules regarding homosexuality in Russia, players from all around the world showed their support for Kasatkina and lauded her bravery.

Ukrainian player, Sergiy Stakhovsky made a tweet congratulating Kasatkina on coming out and mentioned that he admired her bravery, following his tweet congratulating Kasatkina, Stakhovsky came under a lot of fire due to his homophobic comments that he made 7 years ago in 2015 and now suddenly, the views of the Ukrainian seemed to have changed.

Former Australian Tennis player, Rennae Stubbs called out Stakhovsky on his duality and hypocrisy after he congratulated Kasatkina on coming out, in 2015, Stakhovsky in an interview talked about the sexual minorities in Tennis and said that almost every female player in tennis is a lesbian and that is the reason he won’t allow his daughter to get into tennis.

Stubbs called Stakhovsky on this matter and made a tweet saying, “Sergiy, does this come with an apology over what u said years ago about not wanting your daughter to play tennis because of this exact thing? I hope you’re safe and well & I mean that with all my heart & I am so sorry for what’s happening in your country but u should clarify.”

Kasatkina tweeted a picture of herself with her girlfriend to which Stakhovsky replied on Twitter and congratulated her, the current number 1 in Russia talked about coming out and how she came out in response to a new law that was passed that banned the distribution of information about sexual minorities across the country, Kasatkina also urged the younger audience to change nationalities if they want the freedom to be who they are due to which she came under a lot of criticism from Russian politicians.
