Former Australian professional tennis player Rennae Stubbs has praised Daniil Medvedev for choosing a simple lifestyle. She even went as far as to compare his and Novak Djokovic’s boxes. While the Serb’s box was star-studded, Medvedev had a comparatively simpler box, with only his wife and a few other close family and friends cheering him on.

“He is so honest. I think it’s because he is not looking for attention. Like he doesn’t necessarily want to go on Good Morning America or the Today Show,” said Stubbs, referring to Medvedev. She speculated that the Russian did not prefer to be well-liked and popular. She also revealed that she really liked the former World No.1 as a person and as a player. “He is energetic and magnanimous in many ways,” said the Australian on WeLoveTennis.

Stubbs also commented on Daniil’s wife, Daria Medvedeva. “When I see his wife sitting up there, who doesn’t care. She’s not wearing makeup. She is in a sweatshirt with her hair pulled back,” Stubbs said about her. She compared this with Novak Djokovic’s box, which consisted of multiple stars, including Matthew McConaughey. Djokovic’s box was indeed quite crowded, with a full house to support him throughout the game.

However, Stubbs concluded by saying each player has their own way of making an appearance. While the 24-time Grand Slam champion preferred to have a full box standing behind him, it was quite the opposite for Medvedev. He preferred to keep it simple with only absolutely necessary people cheering him on. Nevertheless, both players seemed to get the support they needed, whether it be from a handful few people or from a whole crowd of them.
