Former Australian tennis player Rennae Stubbs pounced on online trolls bullying Coco Gauff. She accused these trolls of being so quick to bully other players online when they themselves have never been in a similar position. She criticizes the trolls for thinking of themselves as being in a better position when in reality they have never put themselves in the players’ shoes.

“People commenting on Coco being this or that as well as other players. Like seriously you people think you’re tough writing as an unknown user who puts a player down but have never put themselves out there in these kinds of moments,” said the Aussie. Although it’s far from ideal to encounter negative comments online, it’s an unfortunate reality that trolls hold a significant presence on social media platforms.

Following Coco Gauff’s loss to Iga Swiatek in the semi-final of the China Open, she was exposed to heavy criticism on social media. Gauff has had one of the best seasons of her career. From a maiden WTA 1000 title at the Cincinnati Masters to a first Grand Slam title at the US Open, it has been a year of firsts for the American teenager. She has reached a career-high ranking of World No.3 after her US Open triumph. Following her successful season, she also qualified for the WTA year-end finals for the second time in a row.

However, despite these achievements, the American has still not escaped the vengeful eyes of the public. She is still subject to heavy scrutiny by the people on social media. However, Rennae Stubbs seemed to have had enough of these unknown bullies. She was quick to jump in defense of the US Open champ as she put down trolls calling them ‘losers’. She urged these trolls to ‘get a life’, concluding her defense of the American.

Rennae Stubbs voices her hope for an extended rivalry between Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek

Former doubles World No.1 admitted that she hoped for a building rivalry between Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek. These two players are a few of the torchbearers of the next generation of women’s tennis. Stubbs hoped that this dynamic between the players would extend over the next decade.

Following Gauff and Swiatek’s semi-final match at the China Open, the Australian coach took to Twitter to appreciate their rivalry. “I hope these two play each other for another decade,” she wrote.

Currently, Swiatek and Gauff hold the rankings of No. 2 and No. 3 in the world, respectively. They have faced each other in nine matches, with Swiatek emerging victorious in eight of these encounters. The lone instance where the American defeated the former World No. 1 was in the final of the Cincinnati Masters, a victory that propelled Gauff to the title.
