Holger Rune, the young Danish icon, has been making headlines not mainly for his tennis, but due to his constant changes in his coaching team. Over the last month, the 20-year-old made at least four changes in his team that shocked the fans.
After his early exit at the Australian Open, Rune parted ways with Severin Luthi, the former coach of Roger Federer, after two months of partnership. Following that was another major surprise in the form of Boris Becker.
The Dane split with the German coach, sending shockwaves across the internet. Soon it was time for his mother, Aneke Rune, to step down from some responsibilities, and decided to be absent for many of her son’s matches.
Now, the major question was, who will Rune hire next? Unexpectedly, it was Rennae Stubbs who ‘jokingly’ tweeted that she was free to coach him. However, people were very surprised by this, as a wave of reactions flooded the internet. Finally, the wave died away as Rune stated his reunion with his former coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
Recently, Rennae Stubbs spoke about this reunion of Rune and his former coach on her podcast episode. Admitting that it would be a good choice if she would have coached Rune, she said,
It’s a surprise to me. We literally were having dinner and talking about this the other night and we didn’t think that was gonna happen I think for various reasons. I don’t know why he is going back but results will show, we’ll see what happens.
said Stubbs on her ‘Racquet’s Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast’.
Rennae Stubbs revealed that she is not a fan of Holger Rune’s reunion with his former coach
In a recent podcast episode, host Rennae Stubbs shared her views on the reunion of coach Patrick Mouratoglou and player Holger Rune.
I am not a fan of the selection. I just think that he could find somebody that could be a better fit for him, but we’ll see.Stubbs on her podcast
The French coach Mouratoglou had previously worked with Rune to deliver some of his best performances, but the player himself stated that Mouratoglou wasn’t the best fit for him as they split up in August 2023.
After a string of changes, he is back to his former coach, and the tennis world awaits to see the results of the new partnership. With some previous changes of Becker and the experience of Mouratoglou, Rune might be a player to watch out for in the upcoming tournaments.
