“Right now, you’re the best player” Alexander Zverev acknowledges Carlos Alcaraz’s Madrid win

He defeated Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of Mutua Madrid Open, overcame the tough test by the world number 1, Novak Djokovic, and then just breezed past the defending champion Alexander Zverev and defeated him 6-3, 6-1 to snatch his Madrid crown. Alcaraz has become the youngest Madrid Open champion in history.

This tournament victory is Alcaraz’s fourth single title this year and his second ATP 1000 Masters. Madrid Open win also gave Alcaraz his second consecutive tournament victory. Alcaraz’s stature and finesse are growing every match, and with his current form, it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if the young maestro ends up winning his first Grand Slam at Roland-Garros.

“Carlos, right now, you’re the best player in the world, even though you’re 5 years old, you’re still beating us all. It’s great for tennis that we have someone who is going to win many Grand Slams, be world No 1 and win this tournament many times”.

Alcaraz is once in a generation talent, and he brought the whole force of a new generation to the old guards. The manner of victory in Madrid Alcaraz achieved is the testimony of his potential. Alcaraz is hailed as the heir to Rafa Nadal and with his current form, it might even be possible that he ends up becoming the world number 1 sooner than people would have thought.
