Roger Federer, the former world number from Switzerland, is one of the greatest players of all time but has been out of action for almost over a year. He played last at Wimbledon in 2021 where he lost to Hubert Kurkacz of Poland in the quarter-finals followed by his knee surgery and rehabilitation which has kept him out for months and saw a major setback dropping out of the Top 50 rankings for the first time since May 2000. This is the first instance in the 25years Federer has dropped out of the ATP rankings since he started playing in 1997.
The Swiss maestro has clinched 103 ATP including his 20 singles Grand Slam titles and is also a silver medallist at London Olympics. On the 100th-anniversary celebration event of the Centre Court at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship, the 8-time Wimbledon champion expressed his desire to come back next year to play if things go well. He is likely to make his comeback at the Laver Cup in the star-studded Team Europe as he returned to a light practice session after a gap of 400 days.

Rene Stauffer, a renowned journalist and author of the two biographies on Roger Federer named ‘Federer, the biography‘ and ‘Federer, the quest of perfection‘, during an interview revealed the different relations that prevails between Roger Federer and his arch-rivals Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal since he knows the Swiss legend very well. He mentioned about Federer having only a professional relationship with Djokovic and are not great friends off the court while with Nadal, it is completely the opposite.
He said “Between Djokovic and Federer, there is a gap, they don’t communicate much, only when necessary. But, the relationship with Nadal is older than that with Djokovic, they have frequent exchanges, and they helped each other with exhibitions in Mallorca, Switzerland, Cape Town… They are on the same wavelength, they talk to each other on the phone from time to time.”
He even shared that Federer is quite excited as well as motivated to be back on the tour and is looking forward to his comeback at Laver Cup. He further added that “I think he’s coming back to play to give something to the people again, that people will enjoy watching him play again and in an exceptional atmosphere. He wants to experience that, to have those feelings again, feelings that are not there today“
