Roger Federer has been away from professional tennis for five months now. He retired from his beloved sport at the 2022 Laver Cup and has since then enjoying the retirement bliss. Unlike Serena Williams, he has not teased fans with a potential return and looks to be firm on his decision.

He is however on the verge of making a comeback at Wimbledon. Federer holds the distinction of being the most decorated men’s singles champion at the Championships. The eight-time winner is only behind Martina Navratilova who won nine singles titles at the All-England Club.

Federer’s Wimbledon comeback is believed to be in the capacity of a commentator or a pundit. BBC is the frontrunner to get the 20-time Major winner’s signature. However, no official confirmation has been given by either party as of now. As per recent reports by Daily Mail’s Mike Dickson, Federer was once again spotted at the All-England Club rasing further suspicions.

“Roger Federer was sighted at the All England Club last week, his second visit in recent months. Wimbledon is exploring some kind of recognition and role for him going forward, but its form has yet to be determined. It remains expected that he will have some involvement as a commentator/pundit in the BBC’s coverage this year, although that is likely to be on a limited basis,” reported Dickson.

Roger Federer could join the list of former champions to call the action at Wimbledon

If any deal is indeed inked between Roger Federer and BBC, he will not be the first former Wimbledon champ to pick up the microphone at the All-England Club. Sue Barker, Boris Becker, Martina Navratilova, and John McEnroe have been a few of the former champions to call the action at Wimbledon.

For Federer however, it remains a wait-and-watch situation. The 2023 Wimbledon will commence in more than four months giving enough time for Federer to make the decision. For tennis fans, however, it would be a golden opportunity. To see the former World No. 1 do commentary for the Center Court action involving Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, or Andy Murray will be a sigh to behold.

Not to forget, Federer did make the visit for last year’s Centenary Celebrations that included the ‘Parade of Champions’. It has since created a buzz among fans to see the King return to his Kingdom.
