Roger Federer, the former world number one, has not played since his defeat in the quarter-final clash at the 2021 Wimbledon Championship against Hubert Hurkacz following another knee surgery and rehabilitation which has kept him away from the court for months. During the 100th-anniversary celebration event of the Centre Court at the All England Club, the 8-time Wimbledon champion revealed his desire to hopefully be able to play next year.

The 20-time singles Grand Slam champion has won 103 ATP titles and is also a silver medallist at the London Olympics. Due to his long absence, he dropped out of the Top 50 rankings for the first time since May 2000 and it was the first instance in the 25years that Federer was dropped out of the ATP rankings since he started playing in 1997. After a hiatus of over a year, he is likely to make his comeback at the Laver Cup in the star-studded team Europe with Bjorn Borg as the captain as Team Europe will be eyeing for their fifth Laver Cup title.

Bryan Brothers pick Roger Federer over Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the GOAT debate

Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan better known as the Bryan Brothers from America had won 118 doubles titles and 16 doubles Grand Slam titles which makes them the most successful duo in the doubles history. There have been various insights on the GOAT debate with varied opinions but the constant names that have been there are the Big 3- Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer. Bryan Brothers, during an interview, picked Federer above the other two in the GOAT discussion even though he might not end up winning the maximum titles.

They both said “It has to be Roger Federer. Those few years when he was dominating, he barely lost any matches. The way he does is it always so smooth. He doesn’t sweat, he is just like a zen master. He is also the most relaxed in the locker room. Before a Wimbledon final, he laughed in the dressing room like it was a Sunday afternoon in the park. When it’s all said and done, who knows who will have all the records, but I will always have a special place in my heart for Roger.

They further added that “We are all lucky as tennis fans to be part of this generation watch what these guys do what they are doing. Three guys over 20 Grand Slams. I think Roger might have the fans’ favorite, Novak might have it all on paper when it is said and done. Then Rafa’s 14 French Open titles are super-human.” Upon being asked about their thoughts on Federer’s comeback, they said “So that will be an interesting decision he will make, I don’t know what will happen, he’s the most beautiful player I’ve ever seen and he’s the epitome of class.
