Spanish tennis player Fernando Verdasco is most known for his thrilling 5-set semifinal victory over Rafael Nadal at the 2009 Australian Open. Rafael Nadal has been defeated by Fernando Verdasco three times in his career, including the illustrious five-set victory against the Mallorcan in the 2016 Australian Open first round.
In recent remarks regarding Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, Fernando Verdasco referred to the Swiss as the “most gifted in history.” Verdasco believes that despite all of their brilliance, none of the three—not even Federer—could have achieved their legendary status without relentless effort.

In recent remarks regarding Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, Fernando Verdasco referred to the Swiss as the “most gifted in history.” Verdasco believes that despite all of their brilliance, none of the three—not even Federer—could have achieved their legendary status without relentless effort. Federer trails Djokovic and Nadal in the Grand Slam tally but is still regarded by many as the player with the most eye-catching and esthetic style of play.
Fernando Verdasco said in a statement to Mundo Deportivo that there is no alternative to hard effort. He is adamant that even the supremely brilliant Roger Federer had to put in significant training time, let alone Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
“All players need work, work, and more work, it’s not just talent,” Verdasco said. “Federer may be at first glance the most talented in history because he’s the one who plays the most beautiful, but I’m sure he’s trained very hard; Nadal, let’s not talk; Djokovic, the same.”
On the court, Nadal is expected to be back at the Cincinnati Masters while Djokovic and Federer both are out of action and both will most probably be directly seen at the Laver Cup.
