Former World No. 1 Roger Federer continues his off-court adventures by trying out different walks of life. His latest commitment will see him be the ‘Commencement Speaker’ at Dartmouth College during the graduation ceremony of the batch of 2024.
Dartmouth has long been a member of the Ivy League and is one of the most prestigious institutes in the world. The institute was founded 254 years ago and has seen many of its alumni leave a mark in the world. Famous Hollywood actors Meryl Streep and Mindy Kaling both graduated from Dartmouth.
The college published a small video that featured Federer in the green sweatshirt of Dartmouth. He expressed his eagerness to meet the students and also his gratitude for being honored with the invitation.
Hello Dartmouth College class of 2024, I am so excited and honored to be your commencement speaker this year. And of course, I hope I see you on the big green in June. See you then.said Federer in the video.
Coincidentally, Federer’s agent Tony Godsick‘s daughter Isabella is also a student at Dartmouth. Speaking on the news, former World No. 1 and one of Federer’s old rivals, Andy Roddick praised the Swiss maestro for accepting the invite.
He also praised Godsick for creating a relationship outside the business world with Federer given their long association. Roddick believed it was a very classy thing by the 20-time singles Major winner to do showing his respect towards the efforts of his agent.
You know what is cool about this, it is honestly Roger showing up at Nico's practice and doing the commencement speech where Isabella is. This is essentially the result of a tennis relationship. This started as a business, morphs into a friendship, and morphs into a partnership and then there's an afterlife.said Roddick, speaking on Tennis Channel.
The American brought out his funny side on a leaving remark taking a dig at Federer like he often does. But it was all in jokes as he essentially praised his former rival for valuing old relationships.
This is a tip of the cap for Tony and Mary Joe and the relationship they have established with Roger. What price do you put on history. I think it is an incredibly classy thing of Roger to do. It's like annoyingly on brand.added Roddick.
Roger Federer recently attended tennis practice at Stanford alongside Tony Godsick’s son
Federer and Godsick left the IMG together in 2013 having been associated with each other since 2005/06. The two then co-founded Team8 and were instrumental in creating the Laver Cup. The two are also partners in investing in ON shoes which sponsor World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and American young gun Ben Shelton.
When your father works with Federer, you are sure to get some perks of it and Godsick’s son Nico got a taste of it. Studying at Stanford currently, he was surprised by the Swiss maestro who hit the tennis courts alongside him. While Nico was in his training gear, Federer showed his class in his casual outfit.
Godsick himself is an alumnus from Dartmouth where his daughter is currently studying. With Federer known for his brilliant speeches and public addresses, it will surely be a brilliant experience for the students at Dartmouth when the eight-time Wimbledon winner makes his visit in June.
