Former World No. 1 Roger Federer has joined the ever-increasing fanbase of WTA World No. 3 Coco Gauff. The Swiss maestro recently took to his Instagram story to praise the American over her latest achievement.
The 19-year-old has been featured on the cover of the popular fashion magazine Vogue for its April 2024 edition. Gauff is seen wearing a glittery golden dress with her hair let loose. Photographed by the reputed Annie Leibovitz, the cover also has the text ‘Game, Set, Coco’.
The cover page declares Gauff as the ‘new superstar’ of tennis, and rightly so. The reigning US Open champ is one of the youngest women ever to feature on the cover of Vogue. The exclusive features Andre Agassi‘s ex-wife Brooke Shields, who featured as a 14-year-old, a feat yet to be matched.
Other teen celebrities include Britney Spears, Kristen Stewart, Cindy Crawford, and Claire Danes, just to name a few. Gauff, apart from her cover photo, also posed in multiple other outfits as she shines in the fashion magazine.
Federer also took notice of this and took to his Instagram story to praise the young star. Sharing the post on the official account of Vogue, he sent a small message of appreciation for the 19-year-old.
Go Coco! Congratulations! Well Deserved.Wrote Federer on his Instagram story.
Off-court activities keep Coco Gauff busy ahead of Indian Wells
With the entire tennis world catching the action at the 2024 Indian Wells Open, Gauff has been busy both on and off the court. She recently attended the TIME Women of the Year 2024 gala in Los Angeles.
Owing to her activism in the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement and recent success on the Tour, she has been honored with the award from TIME. She wore a custom Prada gown as she graced the red carpet.
She has, however, made the return to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the WTA-1000 event. Playing as the third seed, she is looking for her maiden title at the coveted tournament. With seven career titles in singles, the teen will look to add her 8th and second WTA-1000 title in the coming days.
This could coincide with her 20th birthday, which falls on 13th March. Gauff will take on the winner from the match between Clara Burel and Xinu Wang to start her campaign in the second round.
