Roger Federer will be back on the tennis court as the guest of honor at the Laver Cup, taking place in Vancouver. During the Next Generation Development Program hosted by UNIQLO, the Swiss star coaches some of Canada’s top young players.
It was a very sweet gesture on the 42-year-old tennis veteran’s part. The tennis legend started by joking, “Let’s see if I can still play.” He cracked jokes like “Be nice to me” and “My hand!“. The children were ecstatic to meet their idol and learn from him in person.
He could be seen teaching them seriously as well. He volleyed with all of them, turn by turn. The former tennis player also closely monitored their swings. He gave them sound advice, like where to go low or where to have a strong hold on the racket.
This initiative was a way for UNIQLO to give back to society by shaping the younger generation. They also praised Federer for his participation in the initiative. The ambassadors were astonished at how much time he takes with the kids and how involved he gets.
The ambassador said that the children were so excited to meet Federer that they couldn’t sleep the night before. Even a few moments with him can inspire the young generation.

The veteran states that even after his retirement, he is still interested in being part of the tennis community. He recently expressed an interest in becoming the captain of Team Europe at the Laver Cup. The current captain is Bjorn Borg, who has no immediate plans of leaving his position.
He has helped lead Team Europe to victory three times against their rival Team World. He will be present at the Laver Cup 2023 to commemorate the first anniversary of his final competitive match on Friday.
The former World No. 1 played alongside nemesis Rafael Nadal, where they lost against Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe, and Team World went on to capture the title. Federer said, “There’s something in me that’s Team Europe.” He continued “I’m happy if World wins, don’t get me wrong, but somehow, I can feel it deep inside — I want Europe to win. The Swiss said “I like being in the tennis sphere. Maybe one day I’ll be the captain of the team.“
