After witnessing clinical dominance from defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, Rod Laver was up for a doubles mastery as the duo of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden took on the Italian pair of Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli in the finals of the Australian Open.
Entering the tournaments as the No. 2 team, they did well to beat the other teams, reaching new milestones along the way. With more records to break, Bopanna-Ebden made it to the finals of the Australian Open.
Having started in a great fashion, they kept the points flowing and their opponents on their toes. Changing up the serves and following up with the volleys, the No. 2 duo took the first set to a 7-point tie-break. Neck-to-neck with the service points, the match could have been anyone’s.
With the experience of Simone Bolelli, who had won a doubles title nine years ago, he brought vast experience to his team that allowed them to reach the finals and pose a huge threat to the duo of Bopanna-Ebden.
The Italian duo held a decent tie-break record at the 2024 Australian Open, but it was Bopanna who came through and executed a couple of shots to get a lead in the tie-break.
Along with Ebden, the No. 2 team confused their opponents to record another perfect tie-break. They won the first set to advance a step closer to history.

Following the break, Matthew Ebden served for the championship, and with the final point, history was created for two countries. While an Australian won a title on their home turf, Bopanna took Indian tennis to a whole new level with the win.
The duo of Bopanna-Ebden served their way through the match with nine aces. They won the match 7-6(0), 7-5 to win the title of their career. They displayed magnificent teamwork and coordination to win their maiden Australian Open title together, making two countries proud.
