In the world of sports, an athlete usually faces setbacks that drive them into a shell before they can make a comeback. Indian sensation Rohan Bopanna recounts his dark times and how he fought with his thoughts to reach where he is right now. 

Having not found success as a doubles pro, Bopanna tried multiple partners and failed each time. After not winning a row of matches, he revealed to be mentally tired but felt immediately better when he expressed his feelings to his coach. Urging everyone to do the same, the Indian revealed his change of feeling after expressing his thoughts to the coach and moved only forward since then.

I think just expressing that, you know, relaxed me. I had not won a match for the first four months of my journey. That's when I told my wife, I told Scott as well, my coach, that, you know, I don't think I can go any further. I'm not winning matches. I've been playing 20 years of tennis. I've never had this terrible of a start, not winning matches.

From finding a perfect partner in Matthew Ebden, the team went from stages of a tournament to make it to the finals of the Australian Open. Having seen failures along the way, the team got their big break and reached their second finals in two consecutive Grand Slams. Not only did they reach it, but also won their second finals appearance, breaking multiple records.

After a wonderful run in the 2024 Australian Open, the duo of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden found themselves in the all-exciting finals.

From the get-go, the Indian-Australian duo were neck to neck with their opponents. The intense first set went on with no breaks and both the teams held their service games, taking it into a tie-break. Bopanna showed class in those important 7 points to take a 7-0 lead in the tie-break, winning the first set. Similarly, they won the second set with a last-minute break, the only break in the whole game and they won the match to win the Slam. 

Carrying 1.4 billion dreams behind his back, Bopanna made his country proud in tennis. He became the oldest man to win the Grand Slam and with this, he boosted to World No.1 in men’s doubles. After a lot of struggle, the perseverance of Bopanna kept him going, inspiring the young generations to go out there and achieve what they wanted.
