Rohan Bopanna‘s amazing display of sportsmanship at the US Open men’s doubles final has sparked debate around the tennis world. It has revealed light on the ideals that influenced his decision to surrender a hard-earned point at a critical juncture in the match.

Bopanna and his partner Matthew Ebden were in the midst of a heated battle with their opponents, two-time defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury. The misunderstanding centered on a point that appeared to be legitimately theirs but had a subtle twist. It wasn’t quite clean according to the game’s regulations.

In explaining his decision, Bopanna stated, “That’s the person I have been throughout my career. If something, doesn’t matter what the scoreline or what the occasion of the match is, it was not right.“

Bopanna and Ebden were defeated in the US Open 2023 men’s doubles final by the fearsome team of Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury at Flushing Meadows in New York.

In a gripping match, the Indian-Australian combination demonstrated their prowess by winning the first set 6-2. They displayed some excellent tennis. Bopanna and Ebden appeared to be on their approach to completing the Grand Slam.

Their opponents, Ram and Salisbury, were not to be taken lightly. They staged an incredible comeback in the second set. They won it 6-3 to tie the contest at one set apiece.
