Former Australian tennis player Samantha Stosur opens up about her on-court retirement and her career in the sports media.
Stosur, who announced her retirement on her home soil at the 2023 Australian Open, recalled how her role and preparation were different for the 2024 Grand Slam as compared to her previous years.

Obviously, a very different year compared to what I’ve been used to. But I think it probably gives you the first time to really think about, ‘oh, yeah, I’m really happy with my career. I’m very proud of what I achieved’.Samantha Stosur said to sirensport.
Besides this, the Aussie also highlights her next exciting challenge. For the uninitiated, she was named the captain of Australia’s Billie Jean King Cup team.
Whereas I think when you’re in it still, it’s kind of hard to give yourself a bit of a pat on the back. Because you’re always looking for that next thing and driving for more success. But then when you do step away, it’s like, ah, that was pretty good. I’m very happy with that. So, I didn’t leave the sport with any regrets. I feel like it’s quite an honor to be able to captain an Australian team. And one that I played in for many, many years.Continuing further, she added
That’s not all, Stosur further opened up about the fact that she dabbed when doing commentary. However, when she got the opportunity to work during Roland Garros and Wimbledon last year, she became more and more confident.

The 2011 US Open winner was an active member either in the commentary team or as an interviewer across various events in the lead-up to the Australian Open.

She also interviewed World No. 11 Alex de Minaur in the Asics Solution Speed TM 3 shoe launch. She also opened up about her involvement in the media as a way of being involved with the sport.
It’s a way to stay involved in the sport. And keep tabs on things and you know. I wake up and still probably check results most days. But then when you’re commentating about it, you’ve really got to be on it. And feel like you can give something to the audience watching.The 39-year-old said.
Stosur commented for Channel Nine at the 2024 Australian Open. Stosur also highlighted during the interview the need to support women who are parents. She feels that a lot of women are leaving the sport just to pursue a family. This has to be prevented for greater involvement.
