In a recent podcast, US Senator Ted Cruz brought Serena Williams into a discussion surrounding the participation of transgender in sports. He defended the legislation which prohibits young people from accessing gender-affirming care.
Cruz recalled Williams’ old interview to prove how it’s unfair to play a female against an individual who was born biologically as a male. In spite of the protests from the medical community, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, Cruz is against gender-affirming care which helps an individual to transition from his/her assigned gender to the gender he/she wants to be known via changing their physical appearance, undergoing hormone replacement therapy, etc.
Cruz took to Twitter to share two posts on the same. In another post, he shared a clip of Williams saying she should never compete with Andy Murray.
Sharing Williams’ posts he might want to prove that if the 23-time Grand Slam, who is considered the GOAT (greatest of all time), says it would be nearly impossible to beat a man, then it would be difficult for the other female players also.
What did Serena Williams say about her match with Andy Murray?

Ted Cruz cited what Serena Williams had said in a show back in 2013 to David Letterman about how she would never play against Andy Murray after the Brit’s challenge of a mixed singles match. She said how it’s totally unfair that a match between a man and a woman should happen.
Williams emphasized how women’s and men’s tennis are two opposite things and if she faces the then 26-year-old Brit, he would have easily defeated her in straight sets with the score of 6-0, 6-0. Williams also articulated what makes women’s and men’s tennis two different sports by mentioning how men are faster and serve harder than women.
“Andy Murray, he has been joking about myself and him playing a match and I’m like, Andy seriously, like are you kidding me?” Williams said. “Because, for me, tennis, men’s tennis, and women’s tennis are completely different sports. So I am like, if I were to play Andy Murray, I would lose 6-0, 6-00 in like five to six minutes, maybe 10 minutes,” she joked.
