Serena Williams
It’s been more than a month since Serena Williams called it quits on her tennis career. Having said goodbye to the sport, Williams said that she is not ‘retiring’ from the sport but rather evolving into another stage of her life where the sport will not be her topmost priority.
Over the years, Williams has become an entrepreneur as well as managing her name which has become a big brand in itself. With a beauty line already in place, Williams also has an investment firm by the name of ‘Serena Ventures‘ which uses to aid start-ups and other businesses.
Nigerian tech firm gets massive investment for Serena Williams
Williams was recently revealed to be one of the investors in Nigerian tech firms massive $3.3 million funding. Stears Business, a 5-year old data and intelligence startup came forth recently to reveal receiving a big financial aid from a group of investors.
Stears Business achieved one of their biggest achievements back in 2019 during the general election in Nigeria when they created a real-time election tracket. The campaign was a massive success and drew nearly two million unique users during the election cycle.
MaC Venture Capital, Serena Ventures, Omidyar Group’s Luminate Fund, Melo 7 Tech Partners and Cascador were the companies named as directing funds towards the company that was inducted within the ‘Google for Startups Black Founders Fund 2022’ cohort for its outstanding work.
While no official statement has yet been released by Serena ventures on the subject, Stears Business did say, “We’re excited to announce that we have closed our seed round funding of $3.3M led by MaCVentureCap, with participation from SerenaVentures.”
Williams continues to get success in life away from tennis as well and being able to fund a startup is just one example for it. While she is currently enjoying some vacation time, her business continues to grow and set an example and be an inspiration not only as an athlete but now as a businesswoman.
