Serena Williams, the 40-year-old American came under the spotlight after she denied her friendship claims with the Dutchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. Williams just said that Meghan is merely an acquaintance of hers and not a friend after Meghan mentioned her in a list of her friends in an interview with Vanity Fair.

The American legend is set to compete at the National Bank Open in Toronto which starts on 5th August after facing Harmony Tan from France and getting eliminated to her in the first round of the 2022 Wimbledon. Previously having won the National Bank Open thrice in 2001, 2011, and 2013.

With the pending release of ‘Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors.’ which is the biography of Meghan Markle written by Tom Bower, Sam Kashner took an interview of Meghan where she mentioned Serena Williams as one of her friends and after reaching out to everyone that Meghan mentioned as friends, Williams denied being friends with her and said that she is merely an acquaintance.

Williams said, “You’ve got to be who you are, Meghan. You can’t hide,” Williams made her comeback last month at Eastbourne after receiving a wildcard for the women’s doubles tournament, the American had Ons Jabuer from Tunisia as her partner. Both of them reached the semi-finals of the tournament but had to give a walkover to Aleksandra Krunic and Magda Linette after Jabeur suffered an injury.

Williams will now be playing the National Bank Open where she last played in 2019 but had to retire at the final against Bianca Andreescu due to a back injury, if she is able to stay injury free, she has a solid chance of going all the way at this tournament given that she is focused until the end.
