With US Open 2023 just around the corner, an old promo of the 2014 edition of the Grand Slam has emerged featuring Serena Williams.

American tennis sensation Serena Williams is in everyone’s feed again ahead of the 2023 US Open. A video from nine years ago featuring American Television host David Letterman and the 23-Grand Slam Majors winner is making rounds on the Internet.

The 41-year-old who has not played in any tournaments since the US Open last year, recently gave birth to her second child. While the tennis star hasn’t officially announced her ‘retirement’, she has expressed her desire to “evolve away” from her career as a professional player.

In the video, Williams can be seen engaging in a round of tennis with Letterman on a court in the middle of 53rd Street. Crowds gather around the court to watch them play. The clip is from an episode that aired on 21 August 2014 when Williams had visited the sets of David Letterman to promote the US Open that year.

Post their match, the two then attempt to break the glass panels of an adjacent store with their smashes. As David struggles to do so, Williams achieves the feat and proceeds to shatter the glass into pieces in her second attempt. Serena’s last match was at the 2022 US Open, where she lost to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanović in the third round of the prestigious Slam.

Serena Williams partners with Lincoln for a new project

Williams has collaborated with Lincoln for their latest project. The advertisement features Serena’s baby bump and has garnered much attention on social media. The collaboration is to advertise the newest feature of an automated driving car rolled out by the company.

As the legend and businesswoman, Williams embraces her new phase of motherhood. The advertisement features her emphasizing “letting go” which draws a parallel with her letting go of her career as a full-time professional tennis player. Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, welcomed their second child on the 22 August this year.

Williams also posts videos with her family on her YouTube channel, “Serena Williams”. With the arrival of her second daughter, Serena looks forward to embracing her time away from back-to-back tournaments with her family instead.
