“Mind officially blown”- Serena Williams reacts after being honored at Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery

Serena Williams is getting lots of love for her contribution to the tennis sport after her retirement. Her legacy is being celebrated all over the world. She is a great role model for women, especially for black women.
All those young boys and girls who want to make their mark in sports look up to the Williams sisters- Venus Williams and Serena Williams. Both sisters have won great laurels for their country the USA.
In another episode, to honor the Williams sisters and celebrate their legacy, The Smithsonian, gave them the Portrait of the National Award. Overjoyed Serena Williams took to social media to share her thoughts on the honor bestowed upon her.
“I literally only know one way to hold a trophy… UP! Here to being in the Smithsonian NPG,” posting a picture of her holding the award,” her caption read.
She also shared pictures of the portraits made and are now in display at The National Portrait Gallery.
“To have a picture in the Smithsonian NPG alongside so many historical icons? Mind officially blown. But to be inducted with your sister? Best feeling ever. Thanks Toyin Ojih Odutola for your vision of having a treasure smile. We need to see more of that. And Robert Pruitt what a sensational vision you had of Venus Williams,” the 23-times Grand Slam champion’s caption read.
The portraits of both the Williams sisters were on display at The National Portrait Gallery. The portraits were made by famous New York-based artists Robert Pruitt and Toyin Ojih Odutola.
Serena Williams’ Legacy

Serena Williams’s name is synonymous with tennis. She is one of the most successful tennis players and probably the greatest female tennis player that ever played this game.
She won all the Grand Slams many times over in her career. She also won the Grand Slam Cup (now discontinued) in 1999, WTA Finals 5 times, and the 2012 London Olympics gold medal in the women’s singles event. She with her sister Venus Williams dominated the women’s doubles and besides winning all the Grand Slams has also won three Olympic gold medals.
She also helped Team USA to win the Fed Cup (now Billie Jean King Cup) once and the Hopman Cup twice. She also won the Wimbledon and the US Open mixed doubles titles with Max Mirnyi in 1998.
But her legacy is beyond all these gold medals and the trophies she won. Her most important contribution to the sport is that she gave the black community a reason to claim their respectful position in the American civil society. She inspired them to dream and dream big in life.
She gave the people of her country great reasons to rejoice many times. She brought smiles to the faces of millions of Americans and happiness to billions around the world.
This is the great legacy of Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams and they deserve all the accolades for it. Venus is still playing the sport and Serena keeps on teasing her fans about her comeback. We do not know what the two sisters will do in the future but their past deeds are enough to call them Greats.
