Serena who is currently ranked as the World No. 399, had recently signed up for the Toronto Open as her first tournament during the US Open leg. She has however brought more good news for her fans as she is confirmed for the Cincinnati Open which is scheduled to begin on 13th August, a week after the event in Toronto. The former world no. 1 has not played in any of these tournaments since 2015. With Serena signing up for Cincinnati Open, the Canadian hard court tournament will have star-studded names.

After the 6-times US Open champion is set to play in the upcoming tournaments, hope builds around the tennis streets that she could appear in the 2022 US Open starting in late August. She missed the opportunity to increase her tally of grand slams at the US Open in 2018 and 2019 where she finished as a runner-up and semi-finalist in 2020. Williams, the oldest player in the men’s and women’s fields this year, has won the tournament in Cincinnati twice in her career in 2014 and 2015 while she was runner-up in 2013.
