Serena Williams spills the beans on how she met her husband Alexis Ohanian having first wanted to “Get rid of him”

Former World No. 1 Serena Williams is now enjoying life off the court. Having retired at the end of the 2022 US Open, Williams is now fully focused on spending time with family and especially her daughter Olympia who along with her mother has become a social media favourite.
Williams is married to Reddit’s co-founder Alexis Ohanian whom she married in November 2017 having gotten engaged back in 2016. While the two as a couple have a massive following, in a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Williams revealed their first-ever meeting.
“So we were at this restaurant and, it was at the hotel we were staying at and I was in Italy and this guy shows up and the whole place is empty and this guy, like, really tall, he comes with his computer and he, like, plops down right next to us and he opens his computer and he starts typing, and I’m just like, why?” said Serena.

Williams further went on to tell about their first meeting where she along with one of her friends tried teasing Ohanian believing he’s an Australian. Ohanian however had the patience to deal with the two peacefully and made it a moment to remember for both of them.
“I was so angry. I was like, why is this guy here? And so we tried to get rid of him. You know, my friend was like, listen, there’s a rat over there. He’s an Aussie, he was like ‘Oh my God! There’s a rat! (mimicking an Australian accent) and I’m like, ‘Ya there’s a rat!’ and Alexis looks and doesn’t flinch.
“I’m like, ‘you’re not afraid of rats?’, and he’s like, ‘Umm no I’m from Brooklyn but is there even really a rat there?’. I guess he always knew I was full of stuff. And so then, that’s how we met. I was trying to get rid of him,” added Williams further with small chuckles in between.
Williams and Ohanian were quite famous in their respective fields and their marriage has made them more popular as a couple. With Williams now into her business, Ohanian‘s genius is surely coming to her use while the entrepreneur gets used to constant media attention due to Wiliams’ popularity.
