”Maria didn’t want that black heart either”- Serena Williams’ support to ex-partner Grigor Dimitrov in Miami invites trolls on social media who still haven’t gotten over the Maria Sharapova fiasco

The 2024 Miami Open was gracefully blessed by the presence of tennis legend Serena Williams during its semi-final stages. She first witnessed the magic of young talent Jannik Sinner against Daniil Medvedev before staying up for her ex-boyfriend, Grigor Dimitrov’s clash against Alexander Zverev.

As expected, the American was one of the main attractions of the match, as she cheered the Bulgarian throughout the game, rejoicing in his victory. Interestingly enough, after the match, the two also shared a hug and exchanged a few words that took the internet by storm. 

Given their past, fans did not leave the opportunity to attack the two, as they criticized the American for the reunion. 

For context, Dimitrov and Williams were rumored to be involved for a brief period back in 2013. They spent time training together and were even spotted together on a couple of occasions. Although Serena Williams never confirmed anything about her romantic involvement with Dimitrov, many controversies arose when the Bulgarian dated Serena’s Russian counterpart. 

Soon came the black heart controversy, when Williams indirectly called out Maria Sharapova for dating a black heart (Dimitrov). 

She's still not going to be invited to the cool parties. And, hey, if she wants to be with the guy with a black heart, go for it.

With that being said, it seems like although this was not directed at Sharapova directly, it does point to the Russian about dating Dimitrov.

Nonetheless, despite dating rumors, Williams and Dimitrov are still friends who caught up after the match. Though no one knows if they dated, there sure was no tension between them at the Miami Open.
