Serena Williams recently took to social media to congratulate Grigor Dimitrov following the Bulgarian’s elated victory at the 2024 Brisbane International. However, the American bizarrely labeled Dimitrov as her “brother”, notably after being involved in a romantic relationship with the former 12 years ago.
Dmitrov clinched his ninth career crown after registering a head-turning victory at the ATP 500 event in Brisbane which witnessed the participation of players including Rafael Nadal, Ben Shelton, Andy Murray, and Holger Rune.
The 32-year-old enjoyed his position as the tournament’s second seed and overpowered the likes of Briton Andy Murray, Daniel Altmaier, Rinky Hijikata, and Jordan Thompson on his way to the final. The summit clash of the Brisbane event saw the Bulgarian lock horns with Holger Rune where he outclassed the Dane with his steady on-court coverage and concluded their meet with a straight-set score of 7-6(5), 6-4.
Following his triumph, Grigor Dimitrov’s ex-girlfriend and American tennis icon Serena Williams posted a story to congratulate him and outlandishly called him “brother” despite dating him years ago.
Former American tennis professional Serena Williams is notably regarded to be one of the greatest players in the sport and holds a jaw-dropping record of 23 Grand Slam singles titles to her name. Unfortunately, the 42-year-old walked away from tennis in 2022 after making a series of appearances at the US Open.
Grigor Dimitrov expresses enthusiasm for his upcoming appearance at the 2024 Australian Open
Bulgarian tennis sensation Grigor Dimitrov recently addressed his Brisbane International triumph. He further expressed his enthusiasm for his upcoming appearances, including the one at the 2024 Australian Open at a post-match press conference.
I think there's a lot of emotions on so many different levels for me. I think clearly winning a title, it means a lot to me. It's been a while. I think having that moment is in a way what I'm after. It humbles me at the same time because I feel like I've been playing good tennis and I also feel there's a little bit more that I can get better at on a few more things. Who knows, if those things go right, what else might be coming my way.Dimitrov said
It is worth noting that the World No. 13’s recent victory in Brisbane is his first triumph since 2017 which witnessed his glory at the season’s ATP Finals.
