The 2023 Australian Open has been dominated by discussions surrounding Novak Djokovic‘s recurring hamstring injury. Recently, Russian-born Australian player Arina Rodionova made headlines after she criticized Djokovic. This resulted in her receiving death threats from his fan base. However, with his victory at the tournament, he extended his record by winning his 10th title, equaling Rafael Nadal‘s record of 22 Grand Slams.

The 35-year-old tennis star suffered a hamstring injury during the semifinals of the Adelaide International 1 before the Australian Open. Despite requesting medical timeouts during the matches, he still managed to perform at a high level. However, this led to some fans raising questions about the legitimacy of his injury, causing a rift in the tennis community.

Rodionova expressed her outrage over the death threats she received from Djokovic’s fans. She pointed out the severity of hamstring injuries and how they make it difficult for someone to even walk, let alone play tennis and win Grand Slams. However, she also criticized the fans for their support of World No. 1’s stance on COVID-19 vaccines.

Aria took to her Instagram and said “Not sure why I am getting all the death threats from Novak’s fans,” Rodionova wrote. “For some reason, people think I was joking about the injury. Tears in hamstrings is not a joking matter, people go to the hospitals with those, and can’t walk for days, you guys. Shame on you for turning this into a joke.”

She further added saying “Some can win Slams but the rest of us have to take time off. Also, I am guessing you aren’t for the vaccines but pretty sure the one against rabies will do wonders.”
