World No.5 Holger Rune is set to face Brandon Nakashima in the second round of the Shanghai Masters 1000 event. Following a first-round bye, this will be the first match the Dane will play in this tournament. However, this is not the case with Nakashima. He has already played and won the opening round against Bernabe Zapata Miralles.
The duo have played against each other, once in the 2021 ATP Next Gen finals. There, it was Nakashima who had won the match. However, the Dane has not been playing the same game since then.

The young Dane has really picked up the pace since his spectacular 2022 season. The last time he faced Brandon Nakashima was in 2021, when he had not yet established himself on the tour. However, ever since the 2022 season, the tennis world saw the Dane blossom into one of the best players on the tour.
Ranked 5th in the world, he reached a highest ranking of No.4 during the 2023 season. Since turning pro in 2020, the 20-year-old has had one Masters 1000 event at the Paris Masters 2022, where he defeated Novak Djokovic. However, this does not end his list of achievements.
Brandon Nakashima, on the other hand, reached a career-high ranking of No.43 in 2022. However, ever since, his trajectory has gone downhill when he dropped to a current ranking of World No. 123. He has one ATP career title at the Southern California Open. Other than that, his career has not been too spectacular. However, he has shown time and again that he will be able to hold his own on the court.

The Dane has been creating quite the ripples in the tennis world. Ever since his quarter-final appearance at the Roland Garros 2022, his career has been on a positive trajectory. Nakashima, however, has not had such an impressive year. His last success was his final appearance at the Next Gen finals in 2021. Ever since, the American has not done much to impress the audience. With Rune playing the best tennis of his career, it seems almost impossible for the American to defeat the Dane.
