The 26-year-old Polish star Hubert Hurkacz came into the tennis limelight when he reached the 2021 Wimbledon semi-final, that too after bageling Roger Federer in the quarter-final match third set, which eventually became the Swiss legend’s last match on the tour. He also had the best season in 2021 when he cracked the top-10 rankings for the first time.

Hurkacz has had a decent year so far with his sixth ATP title in Marseille, France. Though he failed to produce any magic in the Grand Slam tournaments, the fourth-round appearance in the Australian Open is his best-ever performance there. He has looked good so far in the Shanghai Masters winning both of the opening-round matches in straight sets followed by two tight matches in the third and fourth rounds.

American 20-year-old Sebastian Korda has had his best year on tour this year with 2 ATP finals, his first appearance in a Grand Slam quarter-final, and finally getting a top-5 win day back here, when he defeated Daniil Medvedev. This is also the year in which he cracked the top 25 for the first time in his career. It was in June 2023 and now he stands one position less at number 26.

His best performance in the Shanghai Masters has arguably come in the last round against his compatriot and future star Ben Shelton. Korda had to play three sets with a final set tiebreaker to seal the deal. Though he has fumbled in some of the crucial moments of the match including losing four match points, he was able to save the match after all.
