Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek’s 2022 season was a sight to behold until her form gave out in the last few tournaments. Early exits and arguments about tennis balls have gotten her the public’s attention before the start of the US Open in a week’s time.

Swiatek defeated Sloane Stephens in the round of 32 at Cincinnati Masters (6-4, 7-5) but lost to another American star Madison Keys in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) in the round of 16, marking the end of her Western and Southern Open dreams.

The number one seed, Swiatek, will be looking to win her third grand slam at the US Open but her early exits in the Canadian Open, as well as the Cincinnati Masters, might give her turbulence before the big tournament. The Polish tennis star did not go past the round of 16 in the last two masters.

Iga Swiatek is one of the strongest contenders to win the US Open this year. Early 2022 saw her win several titles namely -the Italian Open, Miami Open, Qatar Open, and Stuttgart Open among several others. She defeated Coco Gauff in straight sets to win this year’s French Open title.

Prominent sports journalist, Jon Wertheim analyzed her performance in the last few tournaments and said, “She really looks mortal now. She’ll have 10 days or so and then we’ll see what she can do on the hard courts of New York. Once we moved off the clay in the French Open, where she wasn’t just winning matches, I mean there were stints where she was absolutely unplayable. That 37-match streak is one of the greatest streaks in modern tennis history.”

Right now, it’s not looking good for Swiatek. We’ll have to wait and see how she performs at the US Open.
