“She loves tennis too much not to figure it out,” Former coach believes Emma Raducanu will eventually find a way past her hardships
2021 US Open champion, Emma Raducanu will return to action at the ATX Open in Texas next week.
Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu broke onto the big stage in 2021, when she shocked the tennis world by claiming the US Open title. However, she has not been able to match the high standards set by her in the last couple of seasons. The Briton had a rather ordinary 2022 season, where she failed to make any noticeable impact at important events.
Former coach of Emma Raducanu, Dmitry Tursunov believes that her former pupil is too smart enough to not figure things out eventually. He worked with the 2021 US Open champion for a couple of months last season, before parting ways and stating that there were too many red flags to continue.
Injuries has been a major cause for Emma Raducanu’s struggles on court. However, Dmitry Tursunov is confident that it is only a matter of time before she starts figuring out things again. He described Emma Raducanu as a hard worker, and stated that she loves tennis too much to continue in her current form.
“With me, she was,” he told the Craig Shapiro Podcast. Sooner or later, she’s just going to sort it out. She’s too smart of a person not to sort it out you know. She loves tennis too much not to figure it out. It’s just a question of how long it’s going to take her and how difficult the road is going to be. But, I think she’s the person who is willing to go a bumpy road,” said Raducanu.

“She needs to develop her game to more all around” : Dmitry Tursunov on Emma Raducanu
Dmitry Tursunov opined that Emma Raducanu will need to develop her game all-around, and that is a process which is going to take some time. The Briton has worked with a couple of coaches in the last year, which Dmitry Tursunov believes might not be the solution. He insists on sticking to one coaching staff for her game to gradually start improving.
“She needs to develop her game to more all around. She needs to develop these weapons that are not super powerful. To develop that it takes more time,” he said.
“Is she going to allow that time for some of those changes to occur? If the road is too long then you might just abandon it halfway thinking you are not going to get there; does she have the patience to go through with it and does she have the right people around her to help navigate those roads?,” Tursunov added.
Emma Raducanu suffered an ankle injury at the Auckland Open earlier this year, which put her chances of participation at the 2023 Australian Open under some serious doubt. Despite making it to Melbourne, the youngster was knocked out only in the second round. She is all set to return at the ATX Open in Texas, which will commence from February 27.
