John McEnroe, the former American player, and seven-time Grand Slam champion spoke in favor of his compatriot Serena crediting her for her unique playing style and her never-give-up attitude. He even compared her style with that of Roger Federer who is regarded as the coolest player on the court but has been away from tennis since his injury at Wimbledon in 2021 and further surgeries and rehabilitation. He said, “Serena is like Roger, she never comes to lose in the first round.”

He even spoke about how her matches at the Canadian Open and Western & Southern Open gave Serena the much-required preparation for New York as she didn’t have much court time going into the last Grand Slam of her career. He further added “Since her return, she has played four matches, she has lost three. It’s not what she wants. But without disrespecting Toronto or Cincinnati, it was for New York that she wanted to be ready.”
